![]() It is a representation of the interconnectedness of all things and a reminder that everything is related and dependent on each other. Its branches reach high into the sky, while its roots delve deep into the earth. Yggdrasil is a symbol of the cycle of life and death, as it is ever-living and ever-changing. Some are benevolent and some are not, but all are necessary for the tree to continue to grow and thrive. In between these two extremes, there are many different creatures who make their homes in the branches and roots of the tree. There is a squirrel, named Ratatoskr, that runs up and down the tree, carrying messages between the eagle and the serpent dragon, Nidhogg (old Norse Níðhöggr ). The top of Yggdrasil is home to the eagle who keeps watching over the 9 worlds. The third root goes to the world of Hel, the realm of the dead. The second root goes to the world of the Frost Giants. The first root of the tree goes to the well of Urd, in the world of the Aesir. In the poem, the tree is described as having three main roots. The first mention of Yggdrasil is in the poem Völuspá, which is found in the Poetic Edda. Its branches and roots stretch far and wide, providing shelter and sustenance to all the beings that live within its reach. ![]() It is the tree that connects the nine worlds in Norse cosmology. The name Yggdrasil means ” Odin’s horse.” Yggdrasil is an immense ash tree that is central and considered very holy. In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil is the world tree. Nidhogg 2 is aiming for a summer release on PlayStation 4 and PC.7 Shop Viking Jewelry Nidhogg and Yggdrasil But Nidhogg 2 offers enough cool new ideas and refined movement that it'll come with plenty of its own charm. Walking away from this hands-on, it does feel like some Nidhogg players may feel more comfortable with the visual style and minimalistic mechanics of the original game. Nidhogg 2 feels very much like the original game, but the slight mechanical tweaks make it feel different enough that fans might have divided preferences. Stages will feature doors, climbable structures, sticky surfaces, and other obstacles that make individual positioning matter much more than before. Each weapon can still be chucked at foes and can be picked back up from the ground, but players need to be a little more careful about it this time around. Daggers can be thrown faster, two-handed broad swords can better block thrown weapons, and bows can nail opponents from a distance. The rapier is still the default weapon, but as players die repeatedly, they'll often respawn with new weapons, each with different advantages and downsides. The mechanics have also received a couple of noticeable tweaks. There are genuinely creative ideas, like final screens that send players into the gullet of the Nidhogg creature and scrambling to come out the other end. The new art style is allowing Messhof to introduce some cool new arenas, such as a forest stage that appears to be inspired by the 16-bit Ghosts 'N Goblins titles and an upgraded version of the original castle. With that said, the stage design looks like it's taken several steps forward. ![]() It takes getting used to and it may be a jarring change for those accustomed to the look of the original Nidhogg. It's difficult not to come away with the impression that the characters look like Homer Simpson and Ubisoft's Rabbids had a baby and then spent an hour in the washing machine. The Atari 2600-style pixels have gone by the wayside in favor of a more 16-bit visual style from artist Toby Dixon. The first thing that caught a lot of eyeballs (including those of our Chatty community) when Nidhogg 2 was first announced was the game's distinctly new art style. First off, it's worth addressing the elephant in the room.

![]() ![]() Many web-based gambling operators offer low stakes roulette variations where it is possible to make bets of £1 or even £0.50. Nevertheless, this issue can easily be resolved by playing the game online. Often, it might be impossible to bet only £1 per spin since in landbased casinos, the minimum roulette bets usually start at £5. However, players who choose a safe betting unit should bear in mind there are maximum and minimum stake limits at landbased roulette tables. It is recommended for players, who are more cautious with their money and are satisfied with putting relatively small amounts on stake. Sticking to a safe betting unit might enable players to prolong the time they spend at the roulette table. This unit corresponds to 1% of your overall bankroll. If you enter £200 as the size of your overall bankroll, the calculator will compute that your safe betting unit amounts to £2. Inexperienced roulette players are often advised to stick to base units amounting to 1% of their bankrolls, at least until they figure out what betting strategy works best for them. Many roulette experts recommend players to use a base unit that amounts to 2% of the total bankroll and caution them to steer clear of using a unit that exceeds 5% of the sum, they are planning to spend on a single betting session. Which one you choose to adopt depends on the type of roulette player you are, more risk-averse player or a high roller. The calculator will compute three different betting units using this sum, namely a safe unit, a recommended unit and a high-risk unit. For example, let’s assume you have set aside £200 for a single roulette betting session. All players are required to do is enter the exact amount of their bankroll in the respective field and click on the Calculate button. This is how the online roulette betting calculators work. Sticking to the fixed unit ensures players are spending the optimum amount of time at the table while still being able to turn a decent profit whenever they experience a longer winning streak. It is important to remember that discipline plays a crucial role at the roulette table – the size of the base betting unit is meant to be a fixed constant that players stick to throughout their betting session. The base betting unit is the sum players put on stake on each spin of the ball. The calculators aim at indicating what the most suitable base betting unit for a given player will be on the basis of their bankroll size. Using the roulette betting calculators available online is quite straightforward. Activating "Always Show Tool Hit Location" was pretty much the only way I could tell where I was going wrong, and it goes a long way in teaching you how to more accurately control your farmer. Initially I assumed that if my mouse was in the top-left corner of the screen, I would be aiming at the top-left block adjacent to my character. It doesn't behave as you'd expect if you are used to playing twin-stick shooters or Terraria, which follows your mouse more accurately. But if it's farther away in any direction, you'll hit the square directly in front of the direction your character is facing. If your mouse is pointed at one of the eight squares adjacent to your character, that's where you'll hit. Then I discovered the "Always Show Tool Hit Location" option in the settings menu, which shows a red outline around the tile you are targeting, and immediately understood what was happening. ![]() It felt like I wasn't always watering/chopping/hoeing the square I was aiming at, and I couldn't figure out why. Look at any screenshot for this game and it will likely show off some type of motorcycle part, a process of removing or attaching said part, or even including a full table of metrics for how it works. ![]() As such, the racing to be found here is just a stock-standard affair, but for good reason: the game’s one true focus lies within the workshop back home. These events have to be capped off in singular order as players eventually make their way down the list to get to the RiMS Racing championship at the end. Instead, players are given a calendar filled to the brim with events. The most glaring omission in RiMS Racing, however, is how there is no real competition to the massively popular Career Mode featured in MotoGP. These include managing and maintaining all owned bikes, changing up and replacing gear and equipment, and going through a series of progression trees tied to various aspects of the player’s journey. In this sense, there are a bunch of categories and divisions to shift through while back at headquarters. Once the initial tutorial ends, players are thrust into a rather familiar world resembling simulator games from the past. The game has a lot of things to keep track of at all times and the tutorial does a great job of acclimating players to these aspects. This is a neat way to introduce players into the nuance offered here, but in short, players only need to know how there is a buttload of metrics and information to keep in mind. The first things players will see when entering the single-player career mode is already one step better than most others: it jumps into an immediate tutorial where it teaches players the basics of what it means to play a racing simulator, then carries on to guide new players on to the engineering and management aspects. While it is by no means as nuanced as real-world motorbike engineering, it most certainly comes close to the overall real-world experience. Instead, it simulates both the riding experience and that of dealing with the detailed maintenance when off the track. Thus RiMS Racing allows gamers to go in far beyond just tweaking things like stopping power, deflating or inflating tires, and raising or lowering the chassis. RaceWard, a small development studio comprised of Milestone S.r.l. veterans, has chosen to double down on all aspects of motorbike racing – including the tuning and engine portions of the experience. ![]() Similarly, WRCgives players a nuanced view into managing a team and going through a calendar filled to the brim with events, but the most players can do for their vehicles is to fix them between rounds. After all, players cannot build up and tweak those engines to race with afterwards. While games like Car Mechanic most certainly exist, they remain fairly one-sided. This is what RiMS Racing attempts to do, and it does so with grace and immense satisfaction. With that said, only a small handful of these games, including the plethora of wonderful sim racers not mentioned, actually let players take a deeper dive into the nitty-gritty aspects of racing. The long-running MXGP and MotoGP franchises have also been the king and queens of the motorbike racing simulator genre for quite some time. Games like Steep offer extreme skiing simulations, whilst Dirt Rally focuses on, well, the ‘dirt rally’ experience. Simulator fans, racing or otherwise, have been taken care of quite nicely over the last few years. ![]() In physics, as in politics, there is a time-honored notion that all action is ultimately local. Here are my favorite three videos with questions to consider. The Irish physicist John Stewart Bell, who in 1964 proposed a way to observe ‘spooky action’ of particles experimentally, at the Large Electron-Positron Collider at CERN, near Geneva, Switzerland, 1989 Oh, Veritasium has a some great videos about falling objects. I guess this is why Aristotle and many others think this is always true. But it turns out that there are many situations where a heavier object does indeed hit the ground before a lighter object (because of air resistance). I know that doesn't fully answer the question about air resistance, but it gives you an idea of where to start. A professionally thrown baseball (100 mph).A falling human at high speeds (a sky diver). Here are some cases where you would NOT ignore air resistance: First, anything at a very low speed will have a mostly negligible air resistance and at high speed will have significant air resistance. But when does it matter? This is a tough question. Essentially, it doesn't do much to change the falling acceleration of these objects. ![]() Let me redraw the force diagrams for these two objects and include air resistance.įor these objects, the gravitational force is huge in comparison to the air resistance force. The net (total) force on the foam board will give it a smaller acceleration than paper.īut what about the basketball and the bowling ball? Shouldn't they have different accelerations? Technically, yes. The foam board has a larger gravitational force but it also has a very large air resistance force. However, after some short time the forces might look like this: ![]() Then what happens as you drop both a foam board and a crumpled piece of paper? At first, they have the same acceleration since they both have a zero velocity which makes zero air resistance force. It depends on the air speed as well as the size of the object. This air resistance force is really just the sum of the tiny impacts with your hand and the air. If you make your hand into a fist instead of an open hand, the force decreases. If the car drives faster, the air resistance force gets larger. What do you feel? You can feel the air pushing against your hand. Put your hand out the window of a moving car. If all objects have the same falling acceleration, then why did the crumpled up paper hit the ground before the foam board? The problem is that I left off a force - the air resistance force. Air ResistanceĬlearly, I didn't fully address all the issues above. It turns out that these two effects exactly cancel to make falling objects have the same acceleration regardless of mass. Heavier things have a greater gravitational force AND heavier things have a lower acceleration. Since both the acceleration AND the only force depend on mass, I can write: I remember in physics that everything falls the same. If you drop a heavy and light object together, the heavy one will get to the ground first. If you ask people around you, what will they say? I bet the will say one of the following answers: Why would you do an experiment? There would be some experimental error and so you really couldn't trust anything you found out anyway. Of course he never did any experiments to test these ideas. Aristotle also said that a heavier object will fall at a faster speed. I guess this would be the Sun - or somewhere up. Things made of fire want to go to the place where fire is. Objects made of earth (like a rock) will want to go the center of the universe (center of the Earth). Aristotle's Ideas About Falling ObjectsĪristotle said that there are 4 elements: Earth, Wind, Water, Fire. Let's start with some early ideas about falling objects. There are clearly a few technical issues and presentation problems that haven’t been fully been fixed for the Switch optimization yet, but there should still be time for the developers to fix all that. We had a good time with this demo: the graphics were impressive, the tasks were rewarding, the lore was deep, and the score sounded epic too. Read more: How An Astronaut Helped Make First Man Realistic (The developers are working on fixing that, by the way.) It felt like being in that film First Man, and again there was a feeling of reward to be earned, especially considering that the size of the fonts that we needed to read did look quite tiny on the Switch screen. ![]() It’s worth noting that a lot of these tasks required precise timing. Following a series of instructions on the wall, we had to complete a series of checks and flick a number of switches to get the ship ready to fly. We were strapped into our rocket and ready to travel to the moon (in search of answers to Earth’s problems), but there was a complicated procedure to complete before we could take off. The game has quite a serious tone to it, so you’d expect there to be serious challenges to match.Īt the very end of the demo, we got another glimpse of what this game will entail. Hopefully, the further you get into the game, the more it will ask of you. This may be quite a simple puzzle in what is essentially a tutorial, but there’s still a sense of reward when you realize that you’ve done something right. The game rewards you for paying attention: there is a broken ladder in one area, so you have to backtrack to an earlier point in the game to find the portable stairs that you now need again. Once you’ve got the hang of the basic mechanics, the game throws you a few tasks – to get your ship ready for take-off, you’ve got to flick a flew switches and solve some little puzzles. As well as being impressed by the depth of the lore, we also thought that the graphics immediately stood out – everything here seems quite high-end for an indie experience. You can scan items with a gadget on your arm and learn more about each new thing by reading the entries on your tablet. Although the not-quite-finished Switch port made the movement feel a bit slow and clunky, it was still enjoyable to wander around this opening level.
